What Do We Do?

Volunteer

Gears works with many different organizations helping our neighbors right here in your community. These organizations enlist the services of Gears for volunteering, and in some cases running their local events and programs to ensure they are a success.

We often contribute in fun and exciting ways such as the annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Colorado as well as Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to drive support for all kinds of causes. From fundraising to food drives, we like it all!

Some of the organizations we work with on a regular basis include:

Cultivate

Cultivate's volunteer-powered safety net services for seniors and adults with disabilities help them stay safe and live more independently. Cultivate is a nonprofit organization that has been helping seniors in Boulder County since 1972.

Social Involvement

One major part of Gears is getting out and becoming socially involved in the community. We know that one of the best ways to create a sense of community, is to introduce neighbors to each other and gather around a common cause. Some of these events raise much needed funds to continue and advance local non-profits and causes; other events are just a way for us to get out, relax, and have some fun. Keep an eye out for some of our regular events:

  • Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser
  • Bowling Fundraiser
  • Monthly Group Sports
  • Poker Nights
  • Group outings to Colorado Rockies & Colorado Avalanche games
  • Annual Camping Trip
  • Annual White Water rafting

You can also keep track of what's coming up on our Meetup!

Personal Development

Gears members have the opportunity to enrich their own lives as well as the lives of their fellow members. We surround ourselves with others who share the common goal of helping the community, but may have different educational and professional experience. This gives members the chance to learn from each other and better themselves through cooperative discussion and teamwork.

In addition to learning from their peers, Gears members have the chance to take leadership roles ranging from an event chair to running for a year-long board position. Regardless of our position within Gears, we are often forced to operate outside our comfort zone and put ourselves in unfamiliar, sometimes challenging leadership situations.
